Peddler / Solicitor Permit Requirements
Any person who wishes to act as a hawker, peddler, or solicitor within the Town of Riga must obtain a solicitor’s permit from the Town Clerk before engaging in that activity. (Non-profit organizations and religious organizations conducting religious activities, are exempt). Please review the Town of Riga Peddling and Soliciting Code for complete information regarding peddling.
Application Process
Each solicitor must complete an application at least 5 days in advance of the first day of solicitation.

- Peddler License Fee – $100.00/per peddler
What You Should Know
A solicitor must have the permit with them at all times. They cannot say it is with their boss, or they forgot, or that it is in their car. Please notify the Town Clerk’s office (585-293-3880 x122) if you have an unlicensed individual at your door so that we may alert them to our law. Also, please notify us if you had a negative experience with a licensed solicitor.
A permit can be revoked if enough complaints are received, and the behavior violates the Town Code.

Do-Not-Knock Registry
The Town of Riga has established a Do-Not-Knock Registry for the Town of Riga residents only who do not wish solicitors, peddlers, or hawkers to come to their homes for the purpose of selling.
It cannot prohibit the distribution of leaflets, pamphlets, or other literature such as commercial, political, or religious material distributed in a lawful manner.
How to Sign Up
You can email the Town Clerk directly at townclerk@townofriga.org or you can call the Town Clerks Office at 585-293-3880 x 121 or x 122 and ask to have your address added to the Do-Not-Knock Registry.
The solicitors receive a list of addresses they are prohibited from approaching.
What should I do if a solicitor knocks on my door after I sign up for the Do Not Knock Registry?
Call the Town Clerk at 585-293-3880 x 121 or x 122 to report the incident and include as many details about the solicitation as possible.
